What’s so great about this website, aside from it stemming from the founder of WordPress, and CEO of Automattic?

But of course. It’s the simplicity and serenity of the user experience not even trying to punch you in the face, and Matt leading by example.

“More than 15 years ago, I started WordPress with some friends from the internet who believed in the idea of democratizing publishing on the open web. I was 19. ”

A song of distributed work

A third of the web is powered by WordPress without ever having had a need for a centralized office or even advertising.

Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com now (2019) sports 900 employees in 68 countries, who might not necessarily have gotten to know each other face to face.

All work get’s done online. With internal blogs, group chat, and video conferencing for meeting spaces.

As the German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld saw it, ideas show up while you are working. Matt’s life’s work is WordPress. But in building his life’s work, he discovered something just as important:

“Talent is evenly distributed around the globe, but opportunity is not.”

In 2010, Undercurrent, an ad agency in New York demonstrated how Silicon Valley companies on a global scale outperformed conventional mainstay companies in their mainstream market places. They observed a reason for losing market share not to be an individual cause, but the omnipresent use of an outdated OS (operating model).

They were left behind by Silicon Valley companies powered by a responsive operating system. An effect by which international politics with their outdated operating system, has long since been affected by, resulting in a threat to democracy.

WordPress is an open source responsive operating system allowing opportunity to evenly distributed talent around the globe.
