Tim O’Brien The huge book of alternate facts

Early in the first few days of the Trump administration, Kelly-Anne Conway blurted the phrase, “Alternative Facts” when discussing what truth is. It was a stunning thing to hear and when I did, I thought about how truth is what a young child works out at a very young age. One can dispute the veracity of a stated fact, but to knowingly offer alternate facts was a cute way of suggesting that a lie, if presented enough times, can be confused with real facts. I created this image based on a vintage Golden Book for a potential book of my own. Ultimately the publisher made a decision that this phrase would fade from the public’s mind before publication. I was correct, it has not. ‘Alternate Facts’ watercolor and digital, 2017
