Ernstfried Prade, who coined trend sport as an expression during the windsurfing heydays, is willing to come to my aid. And asked me, if I want to come with him along the ways a trendy sport is developing. For now it’s no trendy sport and my recommendation will be that, of what we can do on a local budget.

It’s no longer that people meet up to a beer after a good day of surfing to exchange their stories.

People have taken their conversations to digital. Conversations no longer take place at coastal bodegas, they have moved to the internet.

With every next generation people are becoming more practical, more pragmatic and straight forward.

Windsurfing is no longer a trendy sport, its successors are kite surfing and finally genuine surfing.

Today stand-up paddling is booming. It is accessible and it supports the thesis of a growing pragmatism.

Derek Sivers demonstrates his classic, how to start a movement in less than three minutes.

Not what we do, but what the people do determines success or failure. I am trained in branding and have always been convinced that websites can do it all.

undercurrent a New York agency turning consultancy has stepped up to support what may have been a hunch lingering in subconsciousness for years.

Even if it had appeared to me in such clarity, I would have refrained from voicing it, since calling anything a universal solution doesn’t come across well in Germany. WWII has put a damper on anything that comes close to a final solution.

With hundreds of client projects we kept thinking, that each deserves and requires an individual solution and that big problems require big solutions.

The contrary is true.

Companies are using an outdated operating system.
Big problems are easier to come by with small solutions.
We are being held back by what isn’t an individual issue, we are being held back by a general issue, common to all of us. It’s universally true to many areas of conflicts and of concern to us all.

We are suffering from an outdated operating system and its consequences on behavior.

Not what we are thinking changes what we do, what we do changes our thinking.

The universal solution has a name. It’s called responsive system. An open source content management system off-the-shelf with a customised theme. The later must fit the brand personality and required functionality. Mommy bloggers have paved the way for a democratic web standard. An enormous success many companies can only dream of.

It won’t solve the challenge to get a movement started. (More on that in the second part). It is a prerequisite though for getting a movement going in under 3 minutes . See Derek’s classic TED demonstration.

Development is a friend. We won’t let energy go out he window and play around with forms and formats. The theme holds the proven and tried usability in place. Mistral spends its energy on product innovation and on enabling technologies. to help their coastal communities stay connected with one another. This is where a responsive System comes to the aid.

All historic attempts to force our design on to the web have failed.

All historic attempts to force our design on to the web have failed. Think of how many million advertising dollars went though the chimney in the first 25 years of internet.

Relentless attempts by businesses and their print or tv focused agencies, to force page description upon HTML or XLM have failed. The content description languages inherent and native to the web has proven reliable and resilient to malicious attacks.

Finally, when it appeared as if bulk of industry cash thrown at the web would succeed with the help of Adobe flash…
social media and mobile came along and returned the web to its bare bones silly simplicity. That of which users are most familiar and comfortable with.

Today it is safe to work with what defines a global web standard. Adhere to its HTML and extended markup language, make best use of responsive CM systems and embrace the wake of one pagers for they can prove fast and furious.

It appears to have become mainstream in the US and other countries embracing new technology as a means to improve economy.

More sceptical countries, such as Germany, that leave it to other countries to test the waters are falling behind in digital.

Since my fellow graphic designer and friend, Ernstfried, is a visual animal, I would like to show him what a responsive system for Mistral may look like.

Based on the Svelte theme, developed by Rob Hope, designed by Derek Clark.

No matter what size their device screen is, people will have to be able to swipe the content that interests them on their mobile device. Mistral must ensure they are at ease and comfort. They got to be able to share where they want their friends to join or meet up for a mistralEvent™ short term when being on their way.

Design is important for brand building not for people, they want instant access to information for what to do next and how to get there (route planner), and how to direct their pals to be there.
