West Side Story going wrong

KPF, DS+R, foster + partners, and heatherwick studio have clearly mistaken Hudson Yards for little Dubai.

Architect bureaus can’t sell anything, unless it looks like the silver spaceship in Star Wars.

Silver starships may be a good idea for the tribal princes of Dubai. New York is of a different make. New Yorkers are down to earth, self-made people and a rather sophisticated people.

Look it up on Quora (by writer Peter T Mayer).

It’s a less convenient lifestyle. New Yorkers are more like Europeans. They take subways, buses, trolleys, trams, and all kinds of other public transport instead of driving their cars everywhere. Plus of course they walk a lot in cities.

New York couldn’t be more different from Dubai.

The New Yorker police department is not known to equip their officers with Maserati and Ferrari vehicles. There are no 20% of New York residents living on a basic income with free electricity and water.

All good reasons to ask New York architects to take their silver skyscrapers to Dubai.
